press release - Mari
Eastman
November 9 2001 - January 5 2002,
Opening Friday November 9 from 17-19
It is a great pleasure to present an exhibition with paintings and
drawings by Mari Eastman.
The Los Angeles-based artist presents a universe filled with bird's
nests, horses, fluffy furry bunnies, fashion pictures, and extravagant
interiors from castles.
This installation refers to Hearst Castle, the glamourous and decadent
residence of William Randolph Hearst.
Mari Eastman has extended her paintings and drawings to the walls
and roof of the gallery thus turning the space into a castle in
micro scale.
A wide range of techniques is used, such as acrylic, glitter, airbrush,
shiny beads sewn into the canvas, stickers, and small sentences
culled from diaries.
Mari Eastman will also present a video program with Los Angeles
artists Michelle Omarah, Charles Irvin, and a collective based in
Milwaukee, Zero TV.
Mari Eastman attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago,
graduating from its M.F.A. program in 1996.
She moved to Los Angeles in 1998.
Her work has been seen in exhibitions at Bronwyn Keenan Gallery,
New York; Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE); Chicago Project
Room, Chicago; Victoria Miro Gallery, London; Arnolfini, Bristol;
and UCLA Armand Hammer Museum of Art, Los Angeles.
She has also shown her works here in Copenhagen at Recent Works,
curated by Jakob Fabricius, and recently in the gallery's group
exhibition.
If you have any questions please take contact and we will be pleased
to assist you.
We welcome you in the gallery.
Kind regards
Nicolai Wallner
