press release - Lone

Mirakler 3 January 12 - February 23 2002
Opening Friday January 11 2002 from 17-19
It is a great pleasure to present the group exhibition Mirakler
3 (Miracles 3) with Lone Bank, Christina Malbek, and Tanja Rau.
Mirakler 3 is an installation of cardboard boxes, filled with different
scenarios made out of paper and a huge paper relief on the wall.
The boxes form three large pillars from the floor to the ceiling.
The pillars are each different.
One is constructed like an association of thoughts with elements
from one box repeated in the next. Another pillar has "pillar" as
a unifying element of all the boxes, and the last pillar is more
like a comic strip in its narrative expression.
The relief picks up some of the themes and pictures from the cardboard
boxes. It is filled with information and narrative in crisp saturated
colours, e.g. pictures of accidents, funerals, drug addicts, hospitals,
fire, etc. It can be perceived as a picture of Judgement Day or
as political critique of the capitalist society of today.
The installation is a spectacular work that makes you think of both
the Renaissance Wunderkammer, filled with wonders and representations
of the world, and of the allegories of the Baroque era. But it is
also a reminiscent of 70s political art, of cartoons, and children's
play and toys. This funny disproportion of an expression both childishly
na•ve and craftily skilled at the same time, and a content both
political and religious gives the fascinating small scale scenarios
a straightforward aesthetic quality.
The artists have worked together twice before and exhibited both
times in Charlottenborg, Copenhagen. This is the first time they
show at Galleri Nicolai Wallner.
The show is curated by Birgitte Kirkhoff Olsen.
