Glenn Sorensen
October 29 - December 17 2004
Opening Friday October 29 2004
It is a great pleasure to present an exhibition with new paintings
by Glenn Sorensen.
Working meticulously, building up the layers of paint slowly, Glenn
Sorensen offer small windows into his real life studio and home.
He paints his everyday surroundings but also pushes the motifs towards
a two-dimensional abstraction. Perhaps most of all the intimate
and highly seductive paintings offer glimpses into an ideal world,
tinted mauve.
The paintings I'v done for this show are paintings! They are about
painterly problems: Composition, colour, line, etc.
I've put the paintings together with care in an effort to make pleasing
works, but probably, above all else in an effort to make good paintings.
As with the majority of my work the beginnings of the paintings
come from what I have around me. Things I see everyday and I know
well. Some of these objects I've painted before, like the Mother
- In - Laws Tongue, which is my constant companion in the studio.
I only have to turn it a little bit and I can then start again.
There is also a painting of my son sleeping, plants in the garden
and things on the floor in the studio. The one work which might
be considered an odd one out is a painting of a memory / snapshot
taken while visiting Bangkok. But it is called Holiday, which brings
it back into the loop. It probably goes without saying that I paint
what I want to see, that I paint for myself.
